One of the great advantages of these sites is that they help you start your Internet business with out having the trouble of setting up your own e-commerce website, With it’s increasing popularity sites such as eBay have become very competitive, Just listing an item does not guarantee a successful sale, As large amounts of Auction items remain unsold everyday, The following tips should help you be more successful in selling your items on auction websites,
(i) RESEARCH: Research is essential to being successful on auction websites, Very easy to do, Before listing an item just search the auction site for similar products which have already been listed, Note the selling price, delivery costs, how well the items have been described and how you can improve your listing.
(ii) PICTURE: They say a picture is worth a thousand words, So your listing needs to be accompanied by a good quality picture, People like to see the actual item rather than a picture sourced from the Internet, The pictures should look as professional as possible, Try to make them clear and of good quality with a simple light background, If a product is large try multiple pictures from different angles.
(iii) DESCRIPTION: Provide a detailed description of your product, The more information you have the better a listing can look, Try focusing on the benefits of your product as well as it’s features.
(iv) TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Mention your terms and conditions clearly, eBay offers different payment methods with PayPal being the safest, Delivery costs such as National and International as well as any refund policy’s should be clearly explained.
(V) FEEDBACK: If you have got positive feedback use it to your advantage by mentioning the good comments in your listing, This will help build confidence with potential bidders/customers.
(vi) PAYMENT METHODS: By accepting different payment methods you can increase your chances of being successful, you can use methods such as PayPal, Cheque, Bank Transfer, Credit Cards, Money orders or even cash if collection in person.
(vii) PERSONAL STATEMENT: You may wish to create a personal statement, Which can contain a few lines about yourself, This is not required and should not be too personal however it will help build credibility with the perspective bidders/customers.
