Avoiding No-Win Situations
List of no-win situations and how to overcome these barriers.
- Set a good example- children copy their parents, so if you lose your temper frequently, refuse to back down, or never admit that you are wrong, your child will think this an acceptable way for them to behave.
- Steer clear of situations in which you know are likely to provoke a tantrum.
- Encourage good behaviour by using plenty of praise and avoid confrontations over things that you know may lead to a power struggle.
- Be ready to distract your toddler if you can see that he/she is becoming frustrated because your child is finding something difficult.
- Offer choices whenever possible, so that your toddler understands that he/she can make their own decisions over their lives.
- If you know that you are in the wrong then make this clear to your child so they understand that everyone makes mistakes and that its OK when they do.
