Balance and Success

Balance is an essential ingredient for success. If you have this important tool in your toolbox, you will go very far in life. Let’s look at how balance influences your life!

Balance is essential in life. Balance always ends up being one of the most important factors for real success and happiness. I’ll just give you a simple example to start with. Apples are good for you, but if you only eat apples, you will lack calcium, proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc. The same is true with fish. Fish is good for you but you cannot only eat fish. It is the same with milk or eggs. If you eat only one food, you will have some health problems in the future. Therefore, balance is essential in nutrition.

What about sport and physical training? Is balance essential too in this domain? Yes, it is. Personally, I have seen too many people focus only on one aspect of training and ending up suffering because of that. There are basically three major components to fitness: strength, cardio, and flexibility. A lot of guys focus only on strength or hypertrophy to make their muscles bigger. These guys are very strong but they are worth nothing when the time comes to run or climb a hill. These guys are worth nothing in war. Soldiers need to be strong and to have a very good cardio on top of that. Running all the time is not better than only lifting weights. You need a balance. Police agencies and armies are always looking for people who are totally fit. It means they want people who are strong, who have good cardio, and who are flexible. That’s why army and police training is always aimed at developing cardio, strength, and flexibility.

What about relationships, studies, and money? Balance is essential in all aspects of life. Let me tell you something. I have seen many people focusing all their energy on school and being socially handicapped, meaning that they have no social skills whatsoever. What use is it to be the best in your school program if you have no social skills to interact with other people? I have also seen people focusing all their energy on social interactions. They are excellent in social relationships but they are a big zero in school or at work. Moreover, they know nothing about managing and investing money.

Therefore, the best piece of advice I can give you is to make sure you have some balance in your life. Balance between work, family, health, friends, money, school, and hobbies. You need balance in your life. Some people will tell you to focus all your energy on only one aspect of your life in order to be successful in that particular domain. Yes, this strategy might run in the short term. However, in the long run, it is a proven formula for failure. Be wise, be smart, and make sure to have balance in your life.
