Being Happy with Our Everyday Life

There are so many unhappy people out there. Why are we all so dissatisfied with life? What are we looking for, hoping for? Is there anything we can do to fix it all? The quick fixes don’t work because the problems are still right there the next day, if we are lucky enough to have a next day. Maybe we need to try to be happy with our every day life, be who we are and strive to be better.

The key to real happiness is accepting the life you have and keeping it simple.  You can’t be happy if your life is filled with clutter and complications, if you are constantly worrying about what may happen or fretting over what might have been.

I think I live a fairly basic, simple life, uncomplicated but it is for the most part, most of the time, a happy life.  I know what my priorities are and I’ve learned to put my ducks all in a row, I’ve learned to organize and above all, I’ve learned to keep God first.  I take my every day to Him and let God do the leading. Oh I admit there are days when I try to take the lead, get off the straight and narrow way, lose patience and want things my way now. Guess what, that doesn’t usually work out very well and I usually end up in a mess one way or the other.  Had I just left things in God’s hand in the first place I wouldn’t have to fret the problems.

My days aren’t always predictable, therefore they aren’t boring.  I have a wide range of interest and I enjoy learning new things.  I think one’s life is what one makes it and I believe keeping it simple works best.  Real joy is not found in having the most but in needing the least.  Remember the parable about the tortoise and the hare, slow and steady wins the race and you don’t get all hot, tired and stressed out.   A simple life is not having all the conveniences and trappings that may make life easy (and sometimes lazy).  Although I have a microwave and it does make a busy day simpler to get through, I enjoy taking the time to plan and prepare a meal and you know what, it tastes better.  It also gives you a sense of accomplishment.

I think living a simple life is being able to relax and accept life as it comes.  Each new day is a fresh start.  Yesterday is gone.  You can’t go back and live it over or change anything that you did or didn’t do yesterday.  I’ve learned not to worry about it, fret over what might have been.  It makes my new day simpler.  I don’t worry much about tomorrow.  I have plans and hopes for the future, of course I do.  I hope we all do but I don’t worry a whole lot about what might or might not happen.  Tomorrow will take care of itself, if I even get to see it so why worry and fret about it, get all tied up in knots.  None of us know when we are going to take our last breath of life on this Earth.  It could be 20, 30, 50 years from now or within the next 30 minutes.  Why not just live the life you have and not complicate it with things you can not change at the moment.  I find I am happier if I just live in today, everyday.
