Breaking Bad Habits
Discussing bad habits.
Method for breaking a bad habit. Well some people can break bad habits almost overnight. I always wonder how they can do that with out getting professional help. Almost all the people that break through a tough health-risky habit such as not eating properly, smoking, alcohol of abusing drugs, take two important steps.
1. They have to decide to change.
2. Then make the change.
Once a person commit them self and start taking action towards making the change. There are various types of treatment method, available, these will have good chance of helping them make the change and stick with it.
Those that haven’t yet made up their minds to make a commitment to make the change, or who don’t think they need to make the change, are living in denial unfortunately. 20% of people who have health-risky habit are prepared to make the decision to change their bad habit at any particular time. These types of bad habits we are talking about are not to be taken lightly, life threatening these bad habits can take your life away or make you very sick and not to mention make life miserable for those who care for you.
Prochaska, Norcross, and DiClemente book, offer a practical approach when changing a bad habit. Their book states that there are six stages that can help people when trying to make the change of their bad habits. These stages are;
1. Contemplation – change on the horizon,
2. Preparation – being ready
3. Action – time to move
4. Maintenance – staying there
5. Recycling – learn from relapse
It seams that maintenance is like taking personal inventory in AA.It is a conditional process which necessary to keep from relapsing.
These strategies should increase their chances of breaking their bad habits by using these methods.
