Chicken Guts
Sometimes what seems right is really a road to death.

During college, my friends and I would often hang out after class and go to the nearest street corner and devour our favorite snack: grilled chicken guts known as “saw”. This mouth-watering barbeque of chicken intestines taste so yummy that we didn’t mind spending extra just to stuff ourselves with it.
We became so addicted to it that we ate it every day until we heard bad news. One of our friends fell ill with hepatitis. He had to stop going to school for a while and undergo serious medical treatment. Doctors said that he must have eaten some dirty food that caused hepatitis to infect his body. Many of us have stopped eating “saw” ever since.
Life is full of stuff that tastes good., feels good, and looks good, but when you examine them more closely, they are deadly. Similar to my obsession to the tasty chicken guts, we may be infatuated with some habits, books, shows, games, relationships or activities that look “OK” but are actually fatal.
We have to choose carefully what we feed our minds because some seemingly cool stuff may actually severely damage our souls. Not everything that seems right is actually right.
Reflection:
Stop doing things, going to places, or hanging out with people that may ultimately corrupt your character. They may make you fell good at first, but may cause you to adopt attitudes, habits and emotions that are wrong.

That’s a piece of life’s ways that make us fully human. Whether it be full flavored cholesterol in the guise of fried chicken or Lydia’s lechon or the highly prized stateside whiskey, who could say no? In our country, we take cholesterol rich pulutan and take a shot of whiskey and a gulp of cold water afterwards. Well we knew what happens to animal oils when subjected to cold right? It’s actually an act of unconscious suicide.Nice message kabayan.

It is amazing how many things we do that are pleasant in the short term, yet harmful over time.

Outstanding article with deep meaning. As I grow older I sometimes look back on my life and wonder why I did certain things. It is too bad wisdom comes with age because we need it more as a teen and young adult.

I remembered during my MPA days that along our way home, we usually stop awhile and eat “isaw”, though I know the dangers posted along eating something burned (carcinogenic)

Hehehe! There are risks we have to take to enjoy life. I would still have a bite of “ISAW” whenever I get the chance.

Very uplifting article. Yes, we do get entangled with things that aren’t good for us. Many times (like the chicken guts) they are the very things that are bad for us.
As an aside, it must be impossible to properly clean those tiny chiken intestines. No wonder they were dirty.

Thanks for the insightful article. I’ve never heard of eating chicken intestines, but in our country they eat chitterlings. They smell absolutely horrid while cleaning. That alone scares me off.
Take care & God bless.
