Children’s Professional Headshots
Important points to consider when preparing for a headshot session for your child.
Getting professional headshots done for your kids may be a mystery for some, but if you pick the right photographer, you are off to a great start. A reliable headshot photographer can give you the right tools to break into the entertainment market. They are the eyes that will know how to capture that special quality that your child has to offer.
The first thing that will help your talented youngster, is knowing what market is right for him or her. Are you looking to get them into theatre or commercials? The type of headshot can vary depending on which field they may end up in.
What type of personality does your youngster have? Are they at the age where they are good with memorization? This may help you understand your kid’s capabilities, strengths and weaknesses.
Headshots are tools to help market an actor for work either independently or through an agent. Most agents will require a photograph that will represent the talent well. It’s important to keep the photo current, so that they are used effectively. Outdated shots will pose a problem, especially if the child is older than their current headshot. This may result in losing an opportunity for a role.
Standard headshots are now available in color and should always look like the actor. Being too glamorous or having too many distractions in a shot is not a good selling point to an agent. Children should be natural and girls should be makeup free. Hair and clothing should be presentable and comfortable. It’s important that the kids have fun during a shoot and that their comfort is priority. Don’t put your kids in situations that are unhealthy or emotionally draining, always have their best interest in mind. The result will be a drama-free shoot with a multitude of very usable photographs.
Some agents like photos that show a range of the kid’s personality. If your child has a serious or funny side, it may be wise to have a couple of those shots on hand. You can even chose to print a composite photograph that includes more than one shot that really highlights who they are. At the shoot, encourage your child with words that make them feel great and accomplished. Make the session a fun experience and let the moment happen.
