Conquering Yourself

A few words to show how the world opens up for you when you do what you have to do,when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not.

It is truly amazing what a man can do. Taking a short stroll back to the days of the past I cannot help but be amazed by the works of the great men that have walked our lands. From the likes of Abraham Lincoln, who from sheer mention of his name draws respect and admiration to Einstein who believed that time travel is possible. Besides all the contribution that he brought to physics, we take so much more from him especially we who were definitely not meant fro physics. When these men cross my mind, the lesson I get is that the limits you have are those you put on yourself.

I can only imagine the countless hours many people put into making real what they wish to achieve. The sad fact is that not everyone makes it not everyone gets the spotlight, not everyone gets a spot in the sun. The secret for those who made is not six years in medical school or striking gold, it is in fully understanding that you decide how far you want to go. Any great fight won has first been won in the mind before it is actually won. If you aim for the moon do not ask why you have never got to the stars. The mind is this amazing thing that sees a work of art in an uncurved piece of marble. It makes an ordinary man a rocket scientist and to fully understand its infinite abilities is the ticket to a life you always wanted.

The only hard thing to do is to make a servant of yourself, to discipline your thoughts and to fully conquer yourself. The greatest victory, it has been said is not in wining a battle against a thousand men, but it is in conquering yourself. Show me a man that is in full control of himself and his thoughts and action and I will show you a man that has reached the greatest heights of success. Mastering yourself is, if I could say a fight that we always keep losing. Our human weaknesses and our bodily desires have taken over our better judgment and the man, again, that has emerged victorious is he who thinks he can and has seen himself doing the winning before it actually happens.

Self-mastery is easier said than done and it takes a lot more commitment. It is a journey worth taking and the destination makes you see doors you never knew were open. IT disposes you to endless opportunities if you keep an open mind.

In concussion, the promised land of success and happiness is not as far as we make believe. It however takes a lot of effort and courage to turn your back on everything that slows you down or makes you feel inferior or weak. The process is rough but taking with you the victory of self-defeat and the mind that you have already achieved all that you want to makes it that much better. Like T.S Eliot once said “Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
