Dealing with Criticism

by Viola Rotich in Advice, November 27, 2009

When we come up with any creative work we are not certain everybody will like it.

If you think you are good, wait until you get public. At one point in life people will have to say something about what you are doing. Everybody is entitled to give opinion as long as it does not infringe on another persons rights. I believe when we come up with any creative work we are not certain everybody will like it. Chances are higher that some will like it and others will not. It is important to be open- minded on what we expect to avoid getting hurt.

Criticism at times makes someone feel low and less worth. We have to bear it in mind that no one is perfect, and the fact that we try is a good sign. Good criticism is done through giving honest opinion and not politically correct opinions. However bad criticism is destructive to people who are soft hearted.

A good critic is one who takes time to understand the point of view of another before giving feedback. Criticism is meant to enhance standards be it in writing, music, painting etc. feedback acts as a measure of how good or bad something is. There is no point taking it personal since we learn through people and through our mistakes. In most cases when a professional criticizes your piece of work chances are higher that it is flawless.

It is important to take a considerable time to react to a feedback. Reactions taken hastily could bring too much emotions and anger. This form of reaction ends up shutting out others that would be of help. It is also good to let those ho are quick to point out mistakes that depending on the context, feedback can ether heal or kill.
