Dealing with Pain

About pain, loss and feeling lost.

So at times we find ourselves feeling low. Feeling as if there is nothing to live for. Maybe just feeling like we don’t matter in this world. Maybe it is not that at all. Maybe we just begin to focus on something that is so important to us that we begin to forget about everything else. I read people’s blogs. I hear about their life. Sometimes I wonder if people really remember what makes them who they are. People feel lost or alone. They focus so much on a certain pain, or circumstance that they feel as if they are lost or alone or on the verge of ending things. However, if they stopped for a moment and did not focus on that. Looked forward instead of in the past. Forget about the pain for one moment, they would understand that they are who they have always been. They can always improve and grow. However, you never truly lose yourself. You just lose sight of yourself. I read a blog from a certain person that makes me fear that they will do harm to themselves. I sit and hope they are OK. I wonder if they realize that they are such a great person. You can’t ignore the pain. It is what makes us who we are. It allows us to grow, to change. Every family, friendship and relationship goes through some sort of pain. Some sort of loss or struggle. It is up to us to decide if it is going to ruin that bond… or make it stronger. Either way, we will have grown and changed because of it. We can not stop living just because we have felt some pain.

“But pain… seems to me an insufficient reason not to embrace life. Being dead is quite painless. Pain, like time, is going to come on regardless. Question is, what glorious moments can you win from life in addition to the pain?” – Lois McMaster Bujold
