Did You Know The Connection Between Present Wrapping and Bike Riding?

These are the two skills which learned by almost all Americans and it also showcases the deficiencies in the teaching techniques which we use for educating our children. We conducted an informal survey some time back, traveling across America, and we have established some very fascinating and stimulating data. By sharing the details we hope that the information will encourage serious thinking on what we teach our children. You may also realize the ways to teach  important skills of life to our children.

In the previous six months we questioned numerous Americans if they could ride a cycle and there were just three who did not have this skill.  A large number of Americans were also asked if they could wrap gifts during Christmas and presented them to their near and dear ones. There were just around seven women and thirteen men who were not able to do it.  This was not because they were unable to do it but for religious or moral reasons. Now the question is what is so surprising about this study, just that gift wrapping during Christmas and bike riding and are both skills which have to be learnt.  But then what’s so special in that? It looks like we, as a nation are doing a great job of teaching children both these behaviors and have been successful in teaching about all Americans to wrap present and ride a  bike. But we have left the more vital behaviors like respect for private property, sincerity, integrity, empathy, teamwork, reliability, conscientiousness, love etc to be taught much less commonly as well as effectively.

It came to our mind that examining both the behaviors, present wrapping and bike riding will be very interesting and why is it easy to teach these skills. This will also help us learn some more on how to be successful when teaching more important lessons in life.

We have to teach children to ride a bike and there is no manual which teaches them to learn riding. It is also not possible to learn by just listening to others talk about the way to ride the bike nor do they learn by seeing us riding a cycle.  Children basically learn to ride when we make them sit on the seat and push them off. It is about learning through experience and also because we paint a very thrilling picture about riding a bike and they want to learn. If they trip and fall we pick them and pat them encouraging and instructing them to get back on the seat and try again. There are times when we put the training wheels or run beside them to help them when they need assistance, but they learn themselves as they are on the seat and are holding the handlebars.
