If you really what to know what dilution is and more about it read more.

Every oil sump in engines has a capacity of engine oil that they contain for the effective lubrications in engine; and in a situation where the goes higher that the specification, will lead to sum level faults to the engine.

The highest level of oil required for an engine is specified on the dipstick. When on daily bases, the level of the oil continues to raise showing on the dipstick signifies a possibility of dilution.

I will use this opportunity to define dilution as the situation where diesel mixes with the lubricating engine oil thereby altering the viscosity of the oil. This can result from the in efficient spray of diesel by the injector nozzle in the combustion chamber.

If proper observations are not made in time, the oil rises to a point that it starts seeking for possible way to come out. Observations made around such engines are the excess findings of oil around the engine and of cause over gauge level on the dipstick. And if a possible correction is not made soon, this fault might lead to engine knock.
