Do Unto Others
How practicing the “Golden Rule” can enrich your life.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Sound familiar? I believe it’s what’s known as the Golden Rule. In simpler words, treat others how you want them to treat you. It appears that people are practicing more of the gold-toned or gold-plated rule, which would go something like this…you better treat me right, even if I treat you like crap.
Has anyone else noticed how people have become just plain mean and uncaring? Remember when you could count on friends and family members to be there in your times of distress. And to have a complete stranger help you would always be a Godsend. But now in this world of strife and struggle, it seems as though it’s every man, woman, boy and girl for themselves.
Yes, everyone is struggling in one form or another. Be it financially, emotionally/mentally and oh, yes, physically. If it ain’t one thang, it’s another; how true, how true. But when all of these things are going on, does it really have to shut down your sense of compassion for your fellow man? I truly believe and you know this is just mi3centsworth, that people are mean by nature, or should I say, self-centered, (yeah, that sounds better) and it does take a conscious effort to put other’s needs ahead of our own. I used the word our, but I think I’m going to keep it 100% (real) and not include myself in this equation. And I’m not saying this just because I want to toot my own horn, I’m saying it because it’s the truth.
I tell you, no matter what I’m going through, if I’m called upon to lend an ear, a dime, my time, what-have-you, you’ve got that. It actually makes me feel better when, even in my own time of distress, I’m able to contribute in a way that lightens someone else’s load. I believe this comes from me being taught early on, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I want others to care about me, I want others to show concern when I’m not at my best, I want others to physically help me, when I can’t help myself. Hummm, that almost sounds like I do stuff just to get it done back to me. But that’s not why I do what I do. I do what I do because it’s who I am.
If you’re not a naturally compassionate person and I’m not talking about being a sucker for scam opportunist, I’m talking about knowing that you’re a little or perhaps a lot, on the selfish side, I challenge you today. Open that great big heart of yours and go that extra mile to pay more attention to your fellow man. A smile costs nothing; paint one on if you have to. Make someone’s day today. Bring back the Golden Rule and see won’t your life be enriched.

I abide by the Golden rule. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Like it!
