Ever seen a flashing advert saying “you are the 999,999 visitor” or “you won a lucky draw”. The moment you click it, you will be redirected to another site which claims you instant cash when you buy something online. There IS something fishy going on there.
- Weight Loss? Well that’s what the scammers are trying to trick people. The main problem in most countries is obesity. It is so common that government are trying to tackle it. What does the scammers do? They convince the public to buy some weight losing pills or machine which they have to pay through they credit card. This allows the scammer to hack their credit cards and use them for fraudulent purposes. This thus creates people losing money via the sites.
- You could never ignore this ad “get money by clicking ads up to $2 per ad”. This scam has been very successful for the scammers to get their victims’ email address and send them all kinds of junk and spam mails. Even worse, they could ask you to pay some cash to enjoy more benefits and extra cash. This is certainly a scam. One popular site is AW Survey. It says you could get up to $6 per survey you take for a site. It claims it will pay you when you get $75. Although some people say that they have paid, the majority claims that they have not been paid and some of them have had they accounts deleted for nothing!
- Fake lottery scams. This is one of the common schemes claiming thousands of victims per year. So, how does it work? Simple, these lottery scams tells you that you have won a free lottery ticket or that you have won the lottery by some “lucky draw”. It says that the money will be transferred to his/her bank account if they give and advance money ranging from a sum of a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars! In the end, the scammers won’t give you your money and you will lose your money!
- Hear of the classified ad scam? Well not many but it still captures some unsuspecting victims. Here is how it works. The scammer would contact someone renting or selling stuff on the online classifieds. These scammers are most probably out of town. Without any hassle, the scammer sends a huge sum sometimes higher than the required money to the seller/renter. The victim is then told to deduct the extra money or pay the additional expenses. Here is the catch. The large check is counterfeit. This is not discovered by the victim until he gives the money.
- Mind you. If you are new to the world of computers, keep your eyes open! You should know that the prices of the computers start around $500. So if you see something or someone claiming that it costs above $1500 for a computer, keep a close eye on them. Ask for the price distribution and make sure it is an authorised dealer.
- Planning to sell your home? Be warned because there ARE scammers lurking out there which claim that they will buy your house without you actually seeing it! These scammers take advantage of the mortgage rescue operation to mortgage hustlers. This scam will left those who were victimised to cause their home to be vulnerable to foreclosure.
- Internal Revenue Service Phishing Scams. These type of scammers make use of spam phishing emails to trick the victims into revealing their personnel data such as social security numbers. Although many people are aware of these emails which are spams, the scammers have gone into a new way to trick the people. They impersonalize as an agent from Criminal Investigation and claim that they have submitted false taxes.
- It may not be much but it is still sucking your credit card money! Unauthorised billing scams are one of the most annoying schemes use by the scammers. The trick is easy, the scammers get people to reveal their checking account numbers and send them a brochure of a traveller and buyers club. They implement some charges which may not be much on to your phone bill.
