Five Easy Ways to Save at the Gas Pump
Annoyed by the amount of gas you get for the outrageous price you have to pay? Fear this no longer.
- Park in the first spot you see. You will waste a LOT of gas driving around a parking lot looking for a close spot.
- Fill your tank as early in the morning as possible, when ground and air temperatures are lowest. Gas pumps in the United States don’t compensate for the temperature of the fuel and pumps will deliver slightly more if the fuel is cool. This small extra amount every time adds up!
- Fill up the tank all the way. If you only fill it up to a fraction of its maximum capacity, you will just have to waste more gas to drive to the gas station again, using more gas than if you just bought it all in the first trip.
- Use Air Conditioner only when you’re on the highway. Don’t open you’re windows, this will increase drag in your car, using a whopping 8% more of your gas than when using the air conditioning.
- Try not to use your brakes very much. With the amount of gas you will use with the pedal pushed down all the way going to a stoplight, and then slamming your brakes down when you reach the stoplight, compared to taking your foot off the gas pedal before you reach the stoplight and cruising for a bit, you will save a LOT with option number 2.
