Five Quick Ways to Improve Your Mood

Got the blues? Here are some simple techniques to get over it fast.

Some people are more prone to depression or melancholy than others.

Next time you’re down in the dumps, try changing your attitude ever so slightly, and see what happens. It might just give you the boost you need. Here are five simple techniques you can put to use straight away:

1. Good Vibrations

When someone smiles at you, it makes you smile back. It’s difficult not to, because that radiant smile lights up your world.

On the other side of the coin, nobody likes a belly-acher, someone who’s always complaining and never seems to be happy. Moaners tend to drag everyone else down with them.

Try not to be the person other people avoid and ignore. As the song goes, put on a happy face. It won’t hurt you, it might even make you feel better, and it will let everyone know that you’re fun to be with.

2. Hobby Horse
Got a passion for something? A dream you haven’t achieved yet? A hobby you want to start up?

Maybe you’re a photographer, a singer, or a dress maker. Perhaps you’d like to join a swim team or training club at your local gym.

Hobbies can take you outside your normal environment, give your day a lift and give your spirits a buzz. They’re a refreshing change, and can help re-energize you. When you’re doing something you enjoy, you can’t help feeling good.

3. Stay Positive
Fed up with bad weather, bills in the mail, a boring job?

It’s hard to stay optimistic when things aren’t going exactly as you’d like. But a negative attitude won’t help matters either, will it?

The more you think about your troubles, the more you worry. But worrying gets you nowhere. It makes more sense to try and stay positive. That way you’ll be making your life and the lives of those around you more pleasant and tolerable.

4. The Bright Side
Every cloud has a silver lining. If you look for it, you’ll find it. But if you choose to ignore it completely, you’ll end up missing the rainbow that follows.

Turn obstacles into challenges. Instead of wondering how you’re going to do something, sit down and sort it out. Put your mind to work and find alternatives. You’ll be amazed at how much simpler and more enjoyable your life will be.

5. Enjoy Yourself
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Little things can go wrong, but there’s not a lot you can do about that. So try to chill out and concentrate on the things that are going right, instead.

Cut yourself some slack. Sit back, put your feet up, and let the stresses and strains drain away. Make time for yourself, because there’s always plenty of time for everything else.

It’s your life, so take it easy once in a while. You deserve it.
