Five Reasons Why Procrastination is Good

Here is my opinion on procrastination.

Procrastination, something your parents told you never to do. However, I disagree with that statement, I personally believe that procrastination is actually better then doing homework on time. Here are five reasons why.

  1. Helps you on make or break moments: Everyone has these moments, the times in life where it is do or die. These moments can often appear suddenly and usually require a short amount of time to do. Procrastination will help you with these moments because it allows you to think faster in a shorter amount of time. Procrastination prepares you for real do or die situations and could very well save your life.
  2. You will get more sleep: This is a theory many people will believe the opposite in. However, if you procrastinate, you will infact get more sleep. For example, let us say your bedtime is 10:30 and you already finished your homework at around five. Usually, by the time you get to bed you are not tired and cannot even think about sleeping. It usually takes around half an hour for you to fall asleep. Now let us look at if you procrastinated and started doing homework from 9:30 until 10:30. By the time, you finish homework, you will become extremely tired, and immediately you will fall asleep. The end result is 30 minutes of extra sleep.
  3. It will prepare you for the test tomorrow: This one is an easy one to notice. Procrastinating on studying is closer in terms of time to the test then studying without procrastination. Then of course, you will naturally remember more because their is less time between the time you studied, and the time of the test.
  4. You will concentrate more on the homework: Let us say you just got home and start your homework. It should take around 1 hour to complete, however, you are distracted easily and do not concentrate on your work. You end up not paying much attention to the problems and get most of them wrong because of distractions such as facebook and email. Procrastination will eliminate the chances of distraction because you will only be focused on finishing your homework before sunrise. You will more likely get a higher grade because you actually concentrated on your homework and was not distracted.
  5. You learn to write and type faster: Let us face it; handwriting is not as important as it was once thought of to be. Now, everything is done on the computer and does not require a very neat handwriting. Procrastination will make you type your homework faster creating a faster overall typing speed. In addition, during the major tests like the ACT and SAT, an essay is required and you do not have a lot of time to write it. If you procrastinate, naturally you will write faster preparing you for the essay part of the test.
