Five Tips to Make More Time
Find yourself lacking time? Here are a few ways you can try to make more time to do something else.
No matter how old you are, you will certainly recall many incidents where you might have said, “I don’t have any time!” Don’t worry, I’ve said that too! In the 21st century, we are all busy bees and often we find ourselves not being able to do things because we find ourselves doing so much already. Here are a few simple ways you can make your time a lot more productive.
1. If you find yourself watching TV too much.
As a student, I often find that I have to do homework the night before. I realised that I watch too much TV. Nowadays we have TVs everywhere. The slightly more affluent of us can even afford TVs in their bathrooms. Watching about 1-2 hours of TV is ideal so if you watch any more than that, swap it for something better.
2. Get a day of the weekend free.
A lot of us love spending our weekends with our near and dear. But a lot of the times you may find yourself spending entire weekends with your friends. Okay, that’s good that you are socialising but keep at least one day of the weekend for yourself. Try to get as many of your friends doing things together i.e. a massive group off to the cinema or the local Chinese. This way you avoid seeing a few of friends loads of times in different groups and you get to see them all.

3. Run by a schedule.
If you have a planned schedule which you follow stringently, you will find you have more time than your other friends. Having a planned schedule for leisure, exercise, chores and work means that you can reduce time where needed to do other work of more importance and that you are measuring your time in such a way that you make use of every minute you have.
4. Multitask or not to multitask?
Despite what people say about multitasking, the true benefits lie in you and you yourself. Do you find yourself, working on your laptop, whilst listening to music and watching TV and trying to feed your one year old and find that you’ve spend nearly an hour trying to accomplish it? Don’t multitask then. The brain can cope with only a few things at any given time and multitasking means you are spreading your attention over various things. Sometimes multitasking can take a lot more time than individually focusing your attention on a single thing. Decide what suits you better and follow it. Don’t try to multitask if you find yourself wondering how time has flown.

5. Prioritise your activities.
Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise. That should be your mantra. Certain activities like chores, homework, looking after children take a bigger responsibility than arranging the bookshelf, playing on the Xbox or writing articles for an online writing site. Do them first. Other activities that don’t require immediate doing but do need doing at some point during the week can be slotted in elsewhere. For example, my room gets too dirty too quickly. Instead of cleaning it everyday, I keep it for twice a week. Some day’s dinner needs cooking. I give myself a free day twice a week and resort of microwaveable food. Having said that, make sure you aren’t eating junk every day and wading in the filth that has collected in your bedroom!
You should find that these little tips give you a lot more time than you would normally have. Those people with a lot of time to do other things normally make concessions and that is necessary. You can’t be a domestic goddess, social animal and a workaholic at the same time, but you can pick days when you choose to be a domestic goddess, social animal and a workaholic individually.

Excellent article. Yes, you have basically pointed out everything to maximize your time. Prioritizing is one of the best ways. I like your honey bee example. Also, watching tv like you said 1-2 hrs the most is good. anything more than that during the week is time consuming. Hope my comment goes through!

Thank you so much for these excellent tips. I could definitely benefit from all of them. I definitely need to stop multitasking so much because time does get away from me while I’m trying to do too many things at once. I also get overwhelmed when I am doing too many things at one time.

Atikin,
Excellent advice! I have a bad habit of spreading myself too thin, and sometimes I have to take a step back and look at what I’m doing. Then discard what I don’t have time for and do it when I do get time for it I will try some of these Great article. Keep up the great work!

Hi Atikin, Great and practical tips. My personal view on multitasking is not to do it as it really is not productive at all. Far better to focus and concentrate on one thing at a time. Thanks for sharing. ~Ricky

Good tips. Count your minutes (if not seconds) and the hours will be taken care of automatically. Having some schedule and a diligent daily planner helps. (Not that I follow all these!!)

Good article but a little depressing as the points don’t really help me. I don’t watch TV at all, don’t have time to socialise more than about once per 3-4 months. I already prioritise everything but rarely get through more than about 1/3 of the stuff I need to in a day. Between work, raising my kids and necessary chores I barely have enough time to sleep! Oh dear.
