Four Steps to Personal Success
“This book of the Law shall not depart form your mouth, but you shall mediate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” Joshua 1: eight.
The secret of getting what you want and wanting what you have is first learning how to be happy, loving, confident and peaceful regardless of your outer conditioning. Personal success comes from within and is achieved when you are able not only to be yourself but also to love yourself. It is feeling confident, happy and powerful in the process of doing what you want to do.
If you are already happy and you know that you are not dependent on more money to be happy, greater wealth can make you happier but is not the condition for your happiness. The more you think that money is capable of making you happy the more you give away your power to be happy without it. In his book “How to get what you want and want what you have”, John Gray suggests the following four steps in achieving personal success;
Step one: Set your intention- Recognize where you are now and clearly see where you need to go to achieve the right balance of inner and outer success for you. In other words “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” Romans 12:2. Ask God for the direction of your life.
Step two: Get what you need- Learn how to get what you need to be true to yourself with an understanding of what you are missing and how to get it. You will begin to automatically experience inner success. Scriptures teaches us not to be “anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” Philippians 4: 6-7.
Step three: Get what you want- Understand the secrets of creating outer success without having to give up being true to yourself. Realize the importance of strong desires, positive beliefs and passionate feelings in creating and attracting what you want. This is where the element of faith comes in. Scripture defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1. It starts with having a vision and believing that you already have it because you have seen it in your vision.
Step four: Remove the blocks to personal success- A big part of mastering personal success is learning how to transform negative feelings into positive feelings and negative experience into lessons learnt. Scriptures teaches that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28. Instead of focusing on the negative experience ask your self how you can turn it around to something good.
Whether we consciously reject the material world or we just do not care much about it, a negative attitude about wealth is what keeps it away. It is not enough just to be happy inside. If we are to live the life intended for us we must also give ourselves permission to want more. God gave us dominion over the earth and commanded us to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28).
It is submitted that human beings can only be at peace and complete when they have joy within and are also multiplying either in material wealth, friendship, among others. We are meant to grow in every aspect of our lives. If we stop growing then all that remains is death.

@AlmaG, Thank you for your comments. Ya, the steps are basic to humans but sometimes we forget to use them.

This is much cheaper than a self help book. Like a lot of people, I seem to fall into the trap of equating money with happiness, but free happiness is good too.
