Four Ways to Get Rid of Work Related Stress

Is work related stress driving you crazy? Here are some techniques to help you leave the stress behind at the end of the day.

Do you find yourself leaving work feeling uptight and stressed on a dailiy basis? It’s easy to take work related problems home with you at the end of the day, although this may not be the best choice in terms of your health. Taking workplace related stress home can lead to a variety of health problems including anxiety, depression, elevated blood pressure, and difficulty sleeping. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could turn off the stress of work when you leave your job at the end of the day? With a little mind training, it’s not so hard to do. Here are some ways to turn off work related stress when you leave the office.

Go Straight from Work to the Gym

There’s nothing that relieves the work related stress better than a hard work out at the gym. Jogging on a treadmill or working out on an elliptical machine can clear the mind, but if you’re feeling particularly frustrated, head for the punching bag and do some boxing moves. Kickboxing classes are another great way to relieve frustrations, and don’t forget about yoga. Yoga is a sport that’s specifically designed to clear the mind and de-stress the body. Choose an activity that works best for you and do it before you go home in the evening.

Write it Down

Before you leave work each day, write down all of the issues you’re concerned about at work on a sheet of paper. Once you have it on paper, throw it in the waste basket as you’re going out the door. This will send a signal to your brain that it’s time to stop worrying.

Make the Drive Home Peaceful

To leave some of the stress of work behind, carry a CD in your car that plays classical or new age music. Turn it on as soon as you step into the car and let the sounds soothe your mind on the way home. Music has an amazing power to relax the mind and reduce stress levels.

Give Yourself Something to Look Forward To

Instead of going home in the evening to worry about work, discover a new hobby, take a class, or, otherwise expand your horizons so you have something to look forward when you get off from work. If you don’t have time for these activities, stop for a coffee drink on the way home and allow yourself to sit and enjoy it in peace. Bring along a good book to read while you sip your coffee. It’s hard to concentrate on your problems when you’re reading a fascinating saga. Just make sure the coffee is decaf so you don’t feel wired.

Leaving work related stress at the office is one of the best decisions you’ll make. It will allow you to function better when you are on the job and reduce the risk of stress related health problems. After all, there’s more to life than work!
