How important is it to think of others in such a selfish society?

I am constantly thinking of ways to help others. Maybe it is because I am co-dependent, but it still feels better to think of others and try to help in any way I can.

I think that most people would say that, it is much easier to give up on people than it is to be there for them and help them. Many ask why I have some of the friends that I do. My response is that I don’t have to like everything they do and I don’t have to participate in the things they do, but I can still see the qualities in them that made them “friends” in the first place.

I have one friend in particular that I devote a lot of my attention. I see the good in her and know that she is trying to become a better person and for that i commend her. I will stick by her through what ever she allows me to. She trusts me enough to confide in me and I would not think of breaking that trust. What if I did though? Would that be enough to push her over the edge? What is the harm in being there for her, it may be the one thing that creates a way for her to better herself, by knowing that there is someone there for her. So I say this is why it becomes important for me to “help” her in what ever way I can.

I believe that if more people felt like this and took just a few moments to listen or do some selfless act of kindness for someone else, your life too will be better, more enriched, and who in toady’s age can’t use a little enrichment, and fulfillment?
