Go After Your Passion as Soon as You Can

Do you have a talent, but feel depressed after losing or quitting a job?

Being laid off or fired from a job is usually a devastating experience for many. Most times the separation comes as a shock, unexpected. However it may come, there are many of us who later confess to friends and relatives that what seemed to be a tragedy at first turned out eventually to be a blessing in disguise .That basic instinct to survive usually leads us to follow our true passion.

Sometimes new earnings take a big drop from what we have been accustomed to, but a lot of the time it’s just the opposite. There are many people who lost or quit their jobs and are now able to earn more than they ever dreamt possible. There are those however who would tell you that even though their earnings may have dropped, they are happier than before; because they are following their dream. They are doing what they love.

Looking back, you feel like you were wearing handcuffs or imprisoned at your former job or jobs. Day after day, year after year, you kept on being stifled, suffocated, only to receive that paycheck every week or two; and most of the time also because of the insurance benefits. You became addicted to that $300 or $400 paycheck just because it paid the bills, helped you to survive or rather to exist, because that’s about all it did. The break in momentum gave you the chance to fight for survival and in so doing respond to that urge inside of you to go after your passion, explore your creative mind. Each one of us has a passion; it has been within us since our childhood. Call it childhood dreams if you will; but for many of us, it has been suppressed for some reason or another.

“Once you are free of the handcuffs,” says former radio show host, now flower shop owner, Robin Wood, “you can pretty much do what you want; as long as you’ve got the courage to do it.”

Courage is the watchword here. So, allow yourself to wallow in your grief when you get the shockwaves. After all you are only human .Do not stay down however; because, think about this! If you stay down, it becomes harder for you to get up. However, if you try, bit by bit, to rise; and tell yourself “It’s only if I rise I can be able to achieve something,” then that positive force is sure to give you the strength you need.

It is important to note however, that in following your passion, disappointments also lie therein. The road is not always smooth, and like a vehicle meeting an obstacle in its way, you have to make detours. You may even need to try another of your passions, or find a new passion. There will be the temptation to give in to feelings of inadequacy and depression.

Avoid falling into the trap of low self-esteem, by not putting all your eggs in one basket. Be open to exploring fresh opportunities in order to keep your sanity. The saying ‘when one door closes a better one opens,” still holds true. I have also heard “when the demi-gods leave, the gods arrive” The most important truth is that God, our heavenly Father, knows our purpose here on earth. In His own time, he will fulfill our needs. In the meantime, He continues to sustain us. We need only to pause and reflect a little, and we

will realize, that time and time again we have fallen. However as long as we hold on to that faith in Him, and trust in Him; and we continue to live with hope, we always rise again.
