Honesty is Not Always The Best Policy

Moral values tell us that honesty is an attribute everyone should have, but sometimes it is necessary to put this apart.

There was a man, called John that would love making jokes to other people. John wouldn’t spare anyone of his pranks and most people thought he was hilarious.

One day, he had an important business meeting with the company’s more important clients. It wasn’t a conventional meeting, they had rented a house near a lake and there were lots of activities to do.

Everything was going just fine, the clients loved the outdoors activities the company had organized for them and they were all enjoying themselves. As usual, John started making jokes and everyone seemed to be having an excellent time. However, John wouldn’t spare anyone and, it was his boss himself who was the subject of his pranks.

Everyone in the meeting expected his boss to be furious and fire John right away but, his boss was too busy laughing his heart out. John addressed his boss with the choicest of names, and made him look like a fool while he continued to enjoy.

But, all of a sudden his boss stood up violently and ordered for him to be fired of his company. The sudden change in his boss mood left John astonished. John had a private talk with his boss and asked him why he had gone so mad at him if he had called him various names and none of them had affected him so much. Then his boss grabbed his hair and pulled out, removing a blond wig out of his head. “You called me bald and that’s what hurt me the most” said his boss. He further explained that when John was making fun at him, he wasn’t bothered much as he knew it was all false, but that wasn’t the case when he called him a “bald man”. After this, John finally learned that often truth hurts.
