How Can I Set Goals That Matter?
Many people don’t realize just what it takes to set a meaningful goal. By using visualization, focus and backwards planning, you can achieve the success you deserve.
Many people seem to think that all one has to do in order to achieve the success that is available to everyone is to simply write it down and read it every so often. Nothing can be farther from the truth. To set goals that matter means to make a habit of doing certain things every day until your goal is achieved. From creating a clear vision of your goal to focusing most of your energy on it, success can be acquired by following the steps outlined below.
-
Clearly Visualize Your Goal
Clear visualization of a goal is a little bit misleading. While it is a good thing to see your goal clearly, it’s a better idea to sort of place yourself into the situation where you not only see but hear, feel and even smell what you think would be there when you do achieve it. Doing this will help you know exactly what it’ll be like when you recieve your goal.
-
Focus Your Attention on Your Goal
Now that you have created a clear and all encompassing experience of your goal, it should be no problem whatsoever to focus your attention on that experience. You should be able to feel the exact experience of what it would be like to have your goal. By spending time every day re-examining that experience you will be able to begin formulating a plan to reach it.
-
Focus Your Energy on Your Goal
The third step is to continue with step two. Doing this will create an energy that can sharpen the attention focus which will help you create your plan for achieving your goal. From focused attention comes focused energy. Once again, if this is not done daily then all that work you did in creating a clear vision will be for nothing.
-
Create a Backwards Plan
Now you’re ready to create a plan to reach your goal. All you have to do is visualize yourself having achieved your goal, then ask yourself: “What did I do to get here?” When you’ve answered that question, ask it again and again until you’re at the point you are right now. It’s a good idea to write down your answers. Now you have a definite plan to help you achieve your goal. Now all you have to do is follow it while repeating steps one and two.
You’ve just learned of four definite ways to set goals that matter. This is not the only way to set your goals but it is one of the best I’ve found. By using visualization, focus and backwards planning you now have a roadmap to the success that you deserve.
