How To Be a Good Follower

It is easier for people to criticize the leader believing that criticisms are the best form of help to the leader, there are other things involved.

Being a leader comes with having followers. A good leader definitely has good followers who advice him to the best of their abilities while a bad leader is simply bad because he has bad followers who don’t advice him aright.

Now you can say that a bad leader is bad also because he chose to surround himself with bad advisers while a good leader has himself surrounded by good advisers. All he same, the fact simply boils down to having bad followers and not having good followers.

When a leader knows he is loved by his good followers, he does everything humanly possible not squander the huge goodwill he is enjoying from his good followers. It will be pertinent at this juncture to state that a leader reserves the right to accept the advice of his followers and advisers.

What makes a good follower is in his firm belief to continue to advice his leader even when he is not paying heed to his advices. A good follower reserves that all-important prerogative to continue to show respect to the occupant of a constituted authority of collective goodwill of a body or nation.  A good follower also must be prayerful and always pray for those in authority. He should equally not resort to name-calling and use of provocative words and language as in doing so; he is denying himself from being a partaker in the way he is being governed.

Even when a good advice from you is ignored only to be later accepted, continue to be a good follower believing that one day if all things work for you, you too would be  in a leadership position to make things right.

The problem we have in all of our human endeavours is that we ended up becoming bad followers and when we get to position of leadership, we turn out to become bad leaders simply because we were never good followers. Unfortunately, we always end up having bad followers too.

Let us learn to do the right things at all times and stop the vicious cycle.
