How to be a Good Neighbor

Being on bad terms with your neighbour can make your life frustrating, day after day.

Being on bad terms with your neighbour can make your life frustrating, day after day. But taking the time to establish good terms with your neighbours has numerous benefits. The community will be friendlier, the neighbourhood safer, and the area a nicer and more comfortable place to live.

  1. When someone new has come into your neighbourhood, then introduce yourself. Say hello and get to know them. And a nice welcoming gift wouldn’t hurt either. And you could also give useful information like “Where the nearest pizza pizza is”.
  2. Get to know your neighbours–what they do for a living, what their schedules might be like, and so on. For example, if they have noisy children then a quiet evening will be good for them. Give them tips and information on how to be more considerable to their lifestyle.
  3. Warning on shared walls. If you’re in a terrace, condominium, semi-detached house or any structure where you and your neighbors share adjacent living spaces. They might not like things like noisy televisions, microwaves and washing machines. Also try to minimize how many high heels you wear inside as they might not like it.
  4. Control your dog. Keep your dog on a leash if it has a habit of running rampant on your neighbors’ lawns, especially if they have a cat or a dog of their own, and make sure to clean up after it. They won’t like it if your dog poops on their lawn!
  5. Make sure that your parking doesn’t get in their way. Make sure it doesn’t block their entrance to their house or backyard. And in the morning, don’t over ramp your vehicles because it makes a lot of smoke andyour neighbours won’t like that.
  6. Make sure that your neighbours know if you are having a party or something close to that. Keep them notified on the latest news and such.
  7. Keep you lawn clean. If you have weeds in your lawn then they could spread to your neighbours lawn. Make sure you have plenty of flowers and you mow your lawn regulary.
