How to be Happy in Difficult Times
Simple ways to be positive and happy when facing tough times.
Another simple way would be to listen and pay attention to others. Try being helpful and compassionate to those around you and give them a chance to share what’s going on in their lives. Simply knowing that other people may also, be having the same problems as you do would be enough to make you feel better and happier that you are not in it alone. Also, by sharing and listening, you would probably, be able to do something about your difficult situation.
Make Others Happy
Happiness is contagious. So, when you are feeling a little low and under the weather, spend some time making other people happy. Chances are that their joy and happiness would rub off on you. Moreover, it has been shown that by helping others, we contribute to our own feelings of well-being and high self-esteem. Do volunteer work, spend some time with an elderly relative, do something nice for a family member. The idea is to make the other person happy and bring a smile to their face. A smile that would make you feel happy and good about yourself.
Develop a Hobby
Hobbies and pastimes are a great way of feeling happy. The reason is simple- you’re doing something that you love. So, if you don’t already have a hobby, get one. Reading, gardening, hiking, running, fishing, the list is endless. Just choose an activity that you really enjoy and make sure you spend some time each week, if not every day, doing it. Having a hobby would also, give you something to look forward to other than everyday routine and offer an easy outlet to be absorbed in something enjoyable. It is easy to be happy when doing something that is fun and interesting.
Meditation, Exercise and Faith
If one is healthy, both physically and mentally, one would surely be happy. In difficult times, it is easy to let go and not think about what you eat and whether you exercise or not. However, by making the effort to exercise regularly and remaining healthy, you would have a positive self-image and that would contribute to making you feel happy and good about yourself.
Meditation is a great way of calming the mind and centering oneself. Spending even 10 minutes in meditation, reflection or quiet contemplation would give you a feeling of peace and serenity, allowing you to cope with any difficult situation with ease.
Faith is another way of being happy. Faith is having a belief. It could be in anything- God, a Higher Power, your own abilities; anything that gives you the strength to go on and move forward. Spend some time strengthening your faith. It would see you through difficult times and increase your level of joy and happiness.
Most importantly, remember that happiness is not just an emotion. It is a way of life and with simple steps, such as these, you would be able to deal with challenges and difficult situations, making happiness your way of life.

This is inspiring. Sometimes life knocks you down. Or someone–you just need to get back up and get on with it. God closes a window–and then opens a door.
