How to Cure Boredom in Summer
Although children all count down the days until summer vacation, a few weeks later they are all bored out of their minds, climbing up the walls, and desperately trying to fight off those hot-summer blues. The good news is, there IS a cure!
How many times have you had to hear a child complain that they are bored? The summer is the best and the worst time for every child. Although they count down the days until vacation starts, they can not make it past a couple of weeks before they start to crawl out of their skin. The good news is: there IS a solution. You don’t have to spend any money to get your kids laughing. All you need is a few household items and my list of activities.
Activity ONE: Swiiiiiiing Batter
Ok, so not all children like baseball. Some kids are not that athletic, and a lot of little girls will roll their eyes when you first suggest this one. Once you continue on with your plan, though, your children will not be able to contain their excitement.
Supplies:
- A stick
- Some waterballoons
- A small funnel
- Washable paint (slime can be used too, keep reading to find best slime recipe)
- Garbage bags/ponchos (or just old clothes)
- A couple of kids
Ok, this activity is pretty simple. Fill the waterballoons with some paint (or slime) and a little bit of water. Then, cut holes in the garbage bags to create a poncho-type thing. This will keep the kid’s clothes as clean as possible. Next, PLAY BALL! It’s as simple as that. Even a parent who has one child can do this activity. Just throw the balloons for your child to hit at. One whack and they are covered in an icky, gooey, vibrant mess. If there is more than one child than you still be the pitcher and have the kids take turns being the batter. Make sure the pitcher has a bucket of filled up balloons. If the batter hits a balloon and it breaks open than they can start running while the pitcher tries to tag them out by picking up another balloon and hitting them with it. (Note: make sure you get water balloons and not just regular balloons. Regular balloons don’t break very easily and they hurt when you throw them. I don’t think your child would appreciate the bruises)
Activity TWO: I swear I won’t burn the house down
What child does not like to make a mess? This activity is based around using your creative side and making a mess of mom’s kitchen at the same time.
