How to Focus

Banish scattered thinking and become highly effective.

“Our thoughts create our reality – where we put our focus is where we are going to go.” Peter McWilliams.

What is focus?

Focus is where we put all our attention in one place. For photographers, it is turning the blurriness of a scene into a sharp, working image. Focus is a great way of achieving what you have set out to do, sparing effort.

Remember as a child taking your toy magnifying glass and holding it, so the sun shone through it, onto a leaf? The focused light created fire. Well, the same can be said about your life. If you place 100% awareness onto a task it will, like sunshine, become focused and generate stronger results. Try putting all your attention onto a task and see how quickly and effortlessly you get the job done.

Scattered thinking deflects from the result. Your attention will create easier work, simply because you are giving something your all, and really concentrating on completing the task. Focus saves sweat.

How do you focus?

Simply tell yourself that you must get the task done. Vow that you will not move on or get distracted. In a small manner you are giving it your all; all your thinking, all your attention – everything.

What if I become distracted?

If you are interrupted whilst focusing on something make a note, take a telephone number and tell them you will be with them in a little while. When the task at hand is done, release your focus, and move onto the next task – now applying all your attention on that. A lot of time and energy is wasted on distractions. Limit distractions, and you will notice how well and thoroughly you find that your task is done.

What are pay-offs?
- Tasks are completed properly
- A greater sense of fulfillment is reached
- You get more done and don’t feel hazy, scattered or lazy anymore.

Good luck.

Yep…this is my biggest time stealer…NOT BEING FOCUSED! I attempt to postpone email readings until following some task I have decided to complete. Then I just go down the rabbit hole anyway…. Believe me, there’s no focus in email!
Thanks for reminding me to stay on task.
It’s sort of like having a morning wake up call. (-:
