How to Improve Your Communication Skills?
To get succeed in life you need to improve your communication skills in a systematic way in the right direction.
Reciting:
When you are learning a new language or a new subject, you should make it a practice to recite a particular definition or a description that will help you to retain the subject knowledge, besides improving your communication skills.
Speaking:
Speaking is the most important and a very vital communication skill. In other words you can even say ‘speaking’ is an art. Speaking is both formal and informal and interspersed with qualities like courtesy, humbleness and humility etc. When you speak with your family members like your wife and children, your speak in an informal way; whereas when you speak in your office with your colleagues, subordinates and your superiors, it is mostly formal. Similarly when you speak over phone it is either formal or informal depending upon the person with whom you are speaking.
Public speaking is an effective tool that is used in a formal way depending upon your audience. During a board meeting of a company or in a public meeting of a political party, the public speaking is mostly formal. But to have an effective public speech, besides having a good tone or voice, it should have a good content depending upon the nature of the audience and the context, its method of delivery, coherency and above all, the speech that cater to the need and mood of the people.
Hearing:
Another important way of improving your communication skill is how keenly and effectively, you hear the speech or ideas of others. Listening to the radio, watching TV, talk shows, listening to the speech in a public meeting etc will help you to tone up your communication skills.
- In addition to the above said effective steps, you should frequently participate in debates, conferences and group discussions to sharpen your communication skills. Attending classes to tone up your communication skills will also be useful providing useful tips to improve your communication skills.
- Above all, arranging mock interviews, model parliaments etc will prepare you for the practical life and tone up your oral skills.
Improving Written Skills
- Learning the basics of a language is the first step to improve your written communication skills. It is a basic step and a formative process.
- Besides mastering a language, you should have very good handwriting skills. It should begin from the childhood days and in a systematic way. Reading something written in a good hand writing is the best way to get yourself inspired. However, with the onset of personal computers, people concentrate more on their error free and speedy typing skills and in a way your handwriting skill has lost its significance and importance. You have the advantage of watching their gaits and mannerisms during their performance and use them to your advantage in a way that suits you.
But your communications skills cannot be improved overnight; you should make your attempts in right earnest in the right direction in a systematic way. Once you embark upon them, you can be damn sure that your communication skills will definitely improve.
