How to Keep Your New Year’s Resolution This Year

Making a New Year’s resolution is a time honored tradition, but often times many people drop their resolution after only a few weeks because they have set an unattainable goal for themselves. Learn how to keep your New Year’s resolution this year with a few easy steps.

This thought process applies also to other New Year’s resolutions such as being happier, putting more effort into our work, making more of an effort to call our loved ones, finding a new hobby or volunteering more. We often apply so much pressure to ourselves to fulfill our resolutions that we become disappointed with our performance. The key though is to take things slowly, start doing things once a week, then twice a week and then build from there. You also have to remember that you are only human and if you aren’t enjoying your new attitude or hobby, it is perfectly acceptable to change or evolve your resolution and try something different, isn’t the point of a resolution after all to grow?

One last aspect of the New Year’s resolution you might want to consider is including a friend or another loved one in your goal. Reaching a goal with a partner seems to be easier than reaching one as an individual because you have someone’s company to keep you interested and excited. As partners you can also act as outlets for one another’s frustrations when you are struggling with reaching your aspirations and when you succeed you have someone to rejoice with.

The conclusion is, this New Year’s choose a resolution that is attainable and begin thinking off the bat that whatever you choose will take time. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself that you will eventually end up dropping your goals because it’s too hard, remember that you are only human and that it takes a lot of time and effort to purposefully cultivate yourself. Finally, find a partner to share with you in your resolution so you can keep each other in check and have someone to bounce off frustration with. When you do all of this you are bound to reach any objective you set for yourself.
