Evaluating Your Degree Of Personal Responsibility

1.  Review your responses and make certain you have accurately assessed each item. Note that

 you have:

      • Identified the specific characteristics of personal responsibility

      • Assessed and monitored your own personal characteristics regarding personal responsibility

2.  Review your 3, 4 and 5 responses to develop objectives for your Personal Responsibility Plan.

These responses represent items that you have decided need improvement. For example, if you agreed with and responded 3, 4 or 5 to statement 9, I make excuses, your objective would be to identify ways to use fewer excuses in your daily life. Next, place that objective on a separate page and review it weekly. After a period of time, complete the inventory again to see if you are making progress with your    objectives. Use the following format to develop your objectives:

Item #9:  I make excuses.            Objective:  Identify ways to use fewer excuses in my daily life.

3.  To measure and evaluate your overall responsibility status, draw a vertical line through your responses. Review the vertical line and note its location on the inventory. By observing the vertical line, you will get a general idea of your present status in your responsibility efforts. You can then plot the vertical line periodically to evaluate any improvement in your responsibility status. You separate copies to do so.

4.  To measure and evaluate your overall responsibility progress, add the scores of the items that you answered with an T. Then divide by 50 to obtain the average score and results of the overall rating.

Total Score: _________________   Divide By 50: _________________

Your Overall Responsibility Progress Rating:  _______________

Use This Scale As Your Rating Guide:

1 and 2  = Your score reflects a personal responsibility.

3  = Your score reflects some personal irresponsibility requiring improvement. You
are encouraged to develop  objectives for personal responsibility based on your responses
using the procedure defined in #2 directly above.

4 and 5  = Your score reflects personal irresponsibility requiring much improvement.
You are encouraged to develop objectives for personal responsibility based on your responses
using the procedure defined in #2 directly above.

After completing this inventory, you should have a basic understanding of your personal responsibility and an insight to help you develop responsible thinking in others. Additionally, this insight will enable you to better understand why some kids do and why others don’t become violent, delinquents or substance abusers.
