How to Read a Person’s Gestures
Typical Meanings Behind Every Voluntary or Involuntary Action.
I have listed some of the possible meanings behind every person’s body language. Have you encountered any of them?
- Confidence. This can be seen in the way people walk or “posture”. Notice how marketing people with a straight posture air more confidence than those who stoop or look down. Confidence can also be observed from how they shake hands. A stronger and steady grip exudes more confidence.
- Defensiveness. if you’re trying to convince someone of something, before talking your way through, going on and on and on… observe the other person’s postition. If he/she starts to cross his/her arms and legs, it means that they’re not convinced with what you’re saying. So try a different strategy or reasoning.
- Reassurance. Some people who talk publicly like VJs usually clasp their hands together or sometimes hold the necklace around their neck. This means they are nervous and need something to reassure themselves that they will be fine.
- Frustration. If someone is agry at something, or lost a fight or bet, you’ll notice that when they tell the story to you, they keep on brushing their hair with their fingers.
- Impatience. Someone who is impatient with what you have to say usually tap their feet continuously.
- Interest. If someone is interested in you, he or she will look at you straight in the eye, and will lean closer especially if he or she already feels comforatble with you.
- Boredom. If you’re giving a lecture and some student student of yours is looking intently, but is not blinking, then it means his or her mind is somewhere else. A yawn or tilting head would be the more obvious hint for you to excite the topic a bit.
Of course, not all gestures mean the same thing because people are different. Sometimes, it could turn out to be a mannerism rather than meaning something. One thing’s for sure: see beyond the words and what they’re saying, and always be sensitive and observant to the person you’re talking to. This might land you your dream job, your product sale, or your dream partner. For further information, try looking for “body language” in wikepedia.org.
