How to Take a Punch Properly
A guide to taking a punch to the head or body safely and effectively.
To the Body:
A punch to the belly can be fatal if caught off guard. The famous escape artist Harry Houdini died this way.
To protect your internal organs, tense your abs and turn slightly to the side so that you are hit in your obliques, (side abs). Do not move away from the punch.
To the Head:
Your body will tell you to move away from the punch, but do not do this. This results in your head taking the pull impact. Move toward the blow, not away which lessens the impact. Tighten your neck muscles and tense your jaw to stop teeth grinding against one another. Shift your head down so the punch goes for the forehead and away from the nose. Lift your arm to deflect the punch.
Now try and leave the situation as quick as possible.
