How to Take Care of CDs

In order to maintain long life of cds and dvds, one should handle it properly. follow these tips to take care of your disc.

There can be lot of reasons for your troubled equipment like dust collected on your equipments, filthy or manhandled discs. Cds and dvds use laser light technology for data retrieval. Many times this disc gets spoiled due to improper cleaning.

Follow these simple tips to prolong the life expectancy of your cds and dvds.

  • Store this disk in a cool environment. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or moisture as this can damage the disc.
  • Always cover disc in plastic cases designated for the disc and store it in an upright position like book style.
  • Hold disc by edge as fingerprints and scratching can cause skipping.
  • While cleaning, take a soft cotton cloth and start from the centre in a straight line to the edge. Avoid wiping in a circular motion as it can lead to scratching. Use mild solution for cleaning such as rubbing alcohol and not harsh cleaners like acetone.
  • Never use sticker or labels on the disc, not to write anything on the disc with ballpoint pen, pencil or fine tip marker as it make s the disc unreadable. Use a permanent water or oil based, felt tip pen for labelling.
