If You are Grumpy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands

Not everyone can be a bundle of freakin’ sunshine everyday. Learn how to get your grump on and enjoy doing it…

Despite what your mother told you, sometimes it is okay to be grumpy!

Many of us heard from grandparents or parents that we needed to “cheer up”.  as an adult, you now have choices, and sometimes it is okay to be downright grumpy.  I used to wear a shirt that said “Eat Healthy. Exercise.  Die Anyway.”  Aome people thought it was funny, others found it downright offensive.  I chalked it up to “it was the 80’s”.  Despite what Grandpa and Grandma or Mom and Dad told you, sometimes it really is okay to be grumpy!

Think about it.  Who lives longer?

Think about it, who usually lives longer?  Billy Joel wrote a song, Only the Good Die Young, and despite the rumors, he is still alive and well.  What’s wrong with a grumpy day or two?  After all, we hear every day that doctors state almost everything is okay in moderation.  So getting your grump on every now and then seems to be just what the doctor ordered.  Think about it.  How many adults would have needed less counseling, and saved some cash, by not repressing all of those grumpy feelings?!  Visit a long term care facility, some of those very grumpy people are in their 90’s and a few are well past 100.  My great great great aunt lived to be 104 years old.  She was definitely a spoiled brat in her younger years.  She was definitely grumpy at times in her 70’s.  She had her first motorcycle ride in her 80’s.  She greeted people entering the nursing home when in her late 90’s.  Somewhere around 100 she said, “God doesn’t want me, and the devil won’t take me!”  That was definitely a moment she got her grump on.

What’s the bonus to being happy all the time?

Unless you are under the influence of mood altering drugs all of the time, what really is the bonus for being happy all the time?  Many people at work believe happy people do not have a good grasp on what is really going on in the world.  People who smile and giggle all the time make other people uncomfortable.  Getting your grump on every once in a while makes you appear, well, more human!  Four out of five people surveyed choose Trident gum, the fifth person was being grumpy after a squirrel climbed up his pant legs and bit him in an unmentionable place (you must have seen the commercial).  As far as I know, there is no “awesome award” for being happy all the time.  Heck, even Tiger Woods has a grumpy day.  We all know Brittany has had more than a few grumpy moments, and then there is Danny Bon
