I will introduce this article with V-engines.  These engines have a minimum of six cylinders to sixteen cylinders and which will have equal numbers of cylinder on both sides. These two sides are known as bank-A and bank-B. For general Cummins engines, bank-A is known as the right bank and bank-B the left bank but determining which side is bank A or B depends on the position one will stand. Facing an engine from the flywheel will give the right hand side to be bank-A and the left hand side to be bank-B and piston one will start from the first piston. This feature entails for all Cummins engines except MTU engines which reverse is the case. Determining the position of the banks is very important because it has a lot to do with overhauling of the engine, timing an engine during overhauling and compression gauge in the combustion chamber.
