Investing in Others

by D. Rose in Advice, February 23, 2008

People are one of the most important assets, one can ever invest in. Investing in others assures your own success in life.

No one becomes rich unless he enriches others. Andrew Carnegie

There is only one place, where you can invest life, money and time and not lose it – in people. If you invest in others and show others how they can succeed, and help them to achieve personal success, then your own success is assured.

People are one of the most important assets one can ever invest in. When we help others, we help ourselves. No one lives to his own self. Egotistical thinking believes you should gather what you can and consume it on yourself. But a self-centered person will eventually reach a point in his life where it is impossible for him to mature and be fulfilled.

Rabbi Harold Kushner remarked, “The purpose of life is not to win. The purpose of life is to grow and to share. When you come to look back on all that you have done in life, you will get more satisfaction from the pleasure you have brought into other people’s lives than you will from the times that you outdid and defeated them.”

Investing in others is one of the most productive things you can do. On the cover of Coaching Millions, by Milana Leshinsky, are the words, Help More People, Make More Money, Live Your Ultimate Lifestyle.

What you invest in others will be multiplied and duplicated a hundred times over. What a great return on your investment!

When you invest in others, this action sets spiritual forces into motion; this is a spiritual law. Knowing that whatever good thing each one does, he will receive the same again from the Lord, whether he is bound or free. Ephesians 6:8

If you help someone else obtain success, you will receive those same blessings.

Whenever you help another person, you will receive something in return that affects your affluence, values and principles throughout life.

There is joy in helping others succeed! Giving of your time and efforts from the heart, recognizing that your joy and fulfillment is in the giving, will keep you from being frustrated or dishearten if that person don’t use your principles to succeed. This is the joy of giving!

Richard Shipley, president and CEO of Shipley Associates, offers this advice; “Work well with others to help them achieve their own victories, yours will follow.”

Zig Ziglar, who is known for his top seller, See You At The Top, stated, “You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

The more people you help, the more people will come your way. Helping others overflow into the lives of others.

Robert W. Woodruff, the man whose leadership transformed the Coca-Cola Company from a small regional beverage producer to a global organization and financial powerhouse, understood the people factor when it came to achievement. He was known for passing out a little pamphlet – and one of his quotes was, “Success or failure in this job is essentially a matter of human relationships.”

Our people skills determine our potential success in life. All of life’s success comes from initiating relationships with the right people and then strengthening those relationships by using good people skills.

It all starts with people. A person who gives of himself draws strength, energy, enjoyment and success by giving to others. The principle of giving is that the more you give, the more you receive.

Take a moment and think about the people who have made a difference in your life; whether it is your parents, teacher, mentor, friend or pastor. What did they see in you that you did not see? What did they speak into your life that created a pivotal time in your continuance?

What would this world we live in look like if everyone invested in the lives of others?

By investing in others I don’t mean money and material things. It’s the investment of your talents, your experience, wisdom, counsel and support to help others reach their potentials. This is the greatest thing one can do.

Now, ask yourself if you would like to be that person to make an impact in someone else’s life?

As for your rewards, you’ll get plenty from those who experience success.
