It’s Been a While

What happened to common courtesy?

As I left the store and held the door open for the next patron, he did not thank me.  What happened to thank you?  It’s Been A While.  As I warned the person in front of me that she left her ATM card in the bank machine allowing the next person to make another transaction.  She took her card out and walked by me, not even thanking me.  What happened?  It’s Been A While.  As I helped the gentleman up on the curb because he could not make it alone.  He kept walking without even a smile.  What happened to the courtesy?  It’s Been A While.

What happened to please, thank you and just common courtesy?  Are we that much in a rush to hurry the day away?  Are we that preoccupied with our lives?  Are we that miserable?  What is it?   I must say I don’t like it and will never accept it.  Do I lose sleep over it?  No, but I don’t condone it either.

I was raised to give thanks before eating, saying prayers before sleeping, saying please and thank you, and most of all saying yes sir and yes mam.  What happened to those days?  It’s Been A While.  Most children today are brought up with no respect and who is to blame?  The parents.  Parents need to set guidelines for their children so they can be better people later.  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree remember.  I thank God my parents raised me the way they did; it helped to prevent a lot of heartache and rude awakenings as I grew older.

It’s Been A While.  We need to take a step back and be more courteous to one another, help one another, become one.  You will not only have less wrinkles, but you will add years to your life.  Before you walk away from someone that has just helped you, stop, turn around and say thank you.  Remember the word “please”.  It’s one word that goes a long way.  We can all be better people if we just take a moment and think, think of what we would like to hear and pass it on.

It’s Been A While.
