Jakarta Knowledge Center objectives are to provide knowledge and information by means of reading services and remote access for the Jakarta community.
Jakarta Knowledge Centre objectives are to provide knowledge and information by means of reading services and remote access for the Jakarta community in order to meet their educational needs and personal development.
To achieve this objective, the Jakarta Knowledge Centre receives funding from different sources. The knowledge collection comprises approximately 10,000 volumes of material of all types ranging from general to special knowledge reference works. The most visitors to the Jakarta Knowledge Centre of which almost 50% was students at different levels, because of a lack of knowledge centre or appropriate material, many of these first came to the Jakarta Knowledge Centre, timid or confused, but looking for help with our staffs.
In Jakarta, educational institutions suffer not only from basic lack of knowledge materials but also from a scarcity of knowledge center, and in the rare instances where the latter exist, they are badly organized, without qualified staff who are motivated to help users.
As for the students, they have learning difficulties in understanding texts and vocabulary in a special term and are incapable of summarizing the main ideas or answering questions on texts they have read. Under these conditions, it is not surprising that reading is an assignment rather than a pleasure.
To overcome these problems, the Jakarta Knowledge Center regularly carries out reading promotion activities aimed at high school students. The main objective is to familiarize them with the Jakarta Knowledge Center and its various services.
Activities take the following form :
- exhibitions : on the Jakarta Knowledge Center with photos of the knowledge to provide a historical perspective for young generation;
- guided tours for users, students on current events, accompanied by staffs, to see how science and technology works;
- setting up of a knowledge section on primary education such as It however lacks certain titles from contemporary juvenile fiction. The wall of the reading room covered with science and technology characters from favourite scientist to create a pleasant atmosphere.

Other activities involving educational or recreational videos, game and introduction to all types of knowledge are organized from time to time. All of these are well-received by those who take part.
