Just to Let Them Know You Care

Here are a few ideas to let that special someone (friend, parent, significant other, sibling) know that you do care about them. Also a great way to end a fight.

Write them a letter

When you haven’t seen someone in a while or you’ve been arguing, or even if things are just going a little stale, it’s always nice to hear that they still care about you and love you, and maybe even a short list of things they think is great about you. Take five minutes to scribble down some things that make them extra special to you and why you choose to keep them in your life (or, if you have no choice but to have them, then how glad you are it was them you were stuck with). Likely, they’ll be grateful.

(For interesting ways to get your message from point A to poiint B, check out my article on the subject: http://www.authspot.com/Letters/Because-I-Have-Something-to-Say-Letter-Delivery.421565)

Cover their room in sticky notes

Take a fresh pad of sticky notes and write small, one-sentence comments on each of them, saying things that would be in your letter had you decided to write one, or just listing things you love about them. Then go to their house when they aren’t home (or just wait until they leave if you live together) and stick the notes all over the walls, desks, dressers, in their closet, ect. If you put them in just the right places, they will still be finding them and thinking of you for quite a while afterward.

Put your skills to the test

What is it that you do and you’re good at doing? Can you cook? Make them a special meal and eat it together, whatever they ask for. Are you an artist? Draw them a picture. Photographer? Take one of the two of you. Whatever it is that you’re good at, find some way to do something for the ones you love doing it.

Try to lessen their lot in life

This sounds really big and impressive, but for a lot of people coming home and not having to do the dishes is a major blessing. Cook dinner for your mother or dad, clean your brother or sister’s room for them. Help out a friend with their homework if they need it, or just simply do a load of laundry for your family. Making things the tiniest bit easier for someone you love lets them know you appreciate what they do and you love them.

“Cover their room in sticky notes”

That one could be brilliant advice or it could be absolutely disastrous. I’d have a good think about how the person in question feels about their privacy first!

There are a million things you can do for the person you love, and if you don’t want to lose them, DO SOMETHING! You definitely need to let them know you care. Actions speak louder than words!!
