Killer Bag

Have you ever wondered how harmful your bag could be to your health?

Have you ever wondered how harmful your bag could be to your health?

Not just a handbag but shopping bags, sports bags, swimming bags, rubbish bags and any other bag you can think of.

You’re not sure where I am coming from? Well let me set the scene.

You are off to the gym for a workout. You put your sports bag on the floor of the changing room.

You are going into town. You take along your handbag and put it down on the passenger side floor.

You are out for a meal and a drink and you get a taxi home putting your handbag on the floor of the taxi by your feet.

You have just been to get the grocery shopping and you bring the bags into the kitchen from the back of the car in the spot where your dog normally sits.

Now throughout your bags life it has come into contact with the floor at one time or another, no matter how careful you are it will have and most people when they are unpacking a bag or just setting it down somewhere will do this on the worktops or kitchen counters.

Think back to the last bag you put down on your kitchen worktops.

Where had that bag been?

Where did that bag come from?

No doubt at some stage it had come into contact with the floor, maybe in the car or at the bus stop when you were sorting out your fare, or on the floor at work or in your friends living room.

Just think how many feet have travelled on the same spot as your gym bag, some feet that may have stepped in something unpleasant.

You baby changing bag may well have been set down inside a toilet and then you repack it with nappies on your working tops!

We can’t possibly go round every few seconds cleaning away the bacteria that will be in our homes, but if you just stop and think where you are putting your bag before you put it there, you could save yourself and your family the pain and discomfort of  any illness caused by your bag.

Well researched and well written. Bacteria are everywhere so we have to maintain a clean environment especially with the things that we often use like bags. We should clean them well.

I do think about that actually and am careful about where I put my bag. It can certainly attract a lot of germs. A good article.

I know what you are saying, but I am more afraid of the chemicals used to kill bacteria than I am of bacteria itself. I think people are being overly fearful of something our bodies were made to handle. When we create ultra clean envionments we lower our own immunities, plus cancer is bigger killer and I think it is increasing due to the cleaning chemicals used.

all this unseen bacteria , does make you think a bit – I know another bag that’s definitely harmful to my health – the bag of chips I’m about to pickup from the takeaway!

Well that threw me–from the title I thought it was going to be about plastic bags and suffocation. Good article though Lisa and certainly some food for thought. Thing is, I can’t remember the last time I picked up a bag although I shall pass on this advice to her who does.

Very thought provoking. I keep my surfaces clean, but I think we can get too obsessed. My grandma used to quote an old saying ‘you have to eat a peck of muck before you die’. I think we need some exposure to germs in order to build our defences. They say that the average steering wheel is dirtier than a toilet seat, so I am careful to clean my steering wheel frequently.

Great advice and I guess the harm of a bag is something we all neglect to pay attention to.
