Life Lessons From the Bible’s Noah

Noah is famous for building the Ark, by simply listening to God’s directions. That in itself is a wonderful lesson, but did he really teach us far more than that?

Everyday people write books telling us how to live our lives, everyone from doctors to celebrities; but no one seems to want to look in the Bible for advice. Therefore, I did and here are a few things I learned from the story about Noah and his Ark:

  1. Plan ahead – you never know for sure what can happen, but you need to remember that there had never been rain before the day Noah finished the Ark. What if he had simply been like the rest of the people and said “What rain?” Where would we be if Noah had not saved his family and all those animals?
  2. Stay in shape – Do you realize Noah was 600 years old when God called on him? That just goes to show you that you are never too old to be called on to do something great.
  3. Build your home on solid ground – if the fountain is weak, your home will crumble, but if you build it on solid ground, the home will not fall.
  4. Do not miss the boat – Do not get so busy making plans that you miss the point of living. Live for today and plan for tomorrow, but do not lose sight of the moment or it may be gone forever.
  5. Do not listen to critics – Noah was made fun of for building a giant boat for something called rain. What would have happened if he had stopped building because they hurt his feelings? Do not let someone steal your dreams just by saying something negative about you. Your dreams are yours and they are the key to your destiny.
  6. We get there together – no one can get somewhere completely alone. We all need each other, to encourage and strengthen each other in times of weakness. What would have happened if Noah’s wife had asked him to quit building the Ark because the neighbors were laughing at them?
  7. Speed does not matter – you know the fastest land animal was on the Ark with the slowest? God sees value in all living things, slow, fast, big and small.
  8. Do not stress – Can you imagine being stuck on a boat with your family and a bunch of wild animals for 40 days and nights; now to be honest the animals probably were not that bad, but most families start arguing after only days together. But Noah trusted in God and was patient in waiting for God to allow the flood to end.
  9. Travel in pairs – This is a great safety tip, found right in the Bible. All the humans had mates and so did the animals. No one travelled along on the Ark and they should never travel alone in life either.
  10. Professionalism never beats God – It does not matter how smart you are God has a plan for you. If you do not believe me, then just remember this: amateurs built the Ark and professionals made the Titanic. So you decide: do you want to sink or swim?
  11. Never a storm too big – When you live is spinning out of control and you feel like your lost in a hurricane, remember that God never brings you to it unless he is going to bring you through it. Noah found a rainbow and so will you, just don’t give up.
