Life Rules According to Obama: Success is a Four Letter Word
Political opinion piece on the current dialogue of President Obama.
I truly believe in the old adage of it is better to give than receive. But according to Obama, it is far far worse for us to succeed. Please don’t get me wrong, I am an African American who is extremely proud of the 1st Black President, but I am also an African American who still believes in the American Dream. Hard work and perseverance does pay off. Hold on to your dreams and reach for the stars!! We live in a country where there are no restrictions put on your ability to go for your dreams,, find peace and happiness and at the same time be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Oprah Winfrey recently put it out there… It is wonderful to own many homes and to have your own private jet.. anyone who tells you it is not, is a liar. Oprah is truly representative of what a self-made American is. The key to Oprah is that not only does she enjoy her success.. she shares it. Like many other successful Americans, that is the American way. We are not looking for a hand out, but at times just a helping hand. Forget the long lines and checks in the mail from the government!!
If we truly reach for our maximum potential in life.. the sky is the limit. If this is the case, than why does President Obama continue to verbalize the need to graduate from college and forget your “self” interest. Why do you have to go to the green jobs, the failing schools, the non-profit organizations to make a difference? If that is truly the case President Obama should set a good example and stop profiting off of his many books and memoirs for which he is currently making millions off of. Give that to charity. Its not about you..remember.
As an African American woman, I struggle with saying these words, as many in our community would shun me as a sell-out who does not support the black President. I support Obama, but I am smart enough to establish my own opinions and I know that Obama did not make it to where he is today without a goal of self success . As a matter of fact he succeeded his wildest dreams… Why cant we? What is wrong with working in whatever occupation you choose and shooting for more and helping someone along the way. What happened to pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and making it and learning a valuable lesson to teach someone else? Why not focus on making “lots of money” and setting goals to share with those in need? Why not make it and form a company that provides employment to those who need a job? Not everyone want to work for the government!! Capitalism although not perfect.. is a part of what makes this country great. The grass roots efforts (money) from all of Obama’s contributors is what helped him achieve his success. Why in the world would you want to take it away from them? If it were not for their contributions and ability to contribute, Obama’s campaign would not have made the awesome amount of money they did. This money provided him the ability to win. We need to remember that and stop trying to control the lives of others. If that were the case, Obama would not be where he is today. Think about it.
