Lost Your Job? Keep Yourself Afloat

Recession is not the time to cringe and be afraid. Keep your chin up. Life is worth the fight.

It’s the crazy times.  Who would even imagine things would turn out this way.  Well, staring at the open space wouldn’t help.  So does pessimism.  There are several techniques to overturn this negative experience.  Do not let recession defeat you. Let’s get started.

In any crisis, the natural reaction for any living thing is for survival.  Human beings are blessed with this instinct, and listening to the body’s signals in keeping itself alive will definitely help.  The first thing to do is to assess your access to food.  Yes, food.  It all boils down to survival.  Being forced to be out of work and not having the steady means to get food, you should seek other ways to obtain it.  And by the term ‘access’, in these present times, does not mean the food as being physically near one’s reach.  In this 20th century, access to something means having the means to buy it.  And since losing one’s job entirely cuts the sole access to food, it’s about time to change the usual perspective.  It’s about time to create the food directly and produce it.  That simply solves the problem.  It is not an easy thing to do but it can be done.  You can fight recession.

Start planting vegetables and fruits in your yard.  In a matter of months, you can have green, leafy edibles on the table.  Being productive is a lot better in contrast to having none and moping about the economy.  The recession has taken something away from you.  Don’t let it take more.  Plants can grow on containers and boxes, as long as there’s enough soil and water and sunlight.  One can raise a vegetable garden even without a big yard.  Take stock of what can be produced naturally and move towards that direction.  Beans provide a good source of protein and are good, cheaper alternative to meats.  You can sustain good health in times of recession.

Take care of yourself, physically and emotionally.  When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.  And how can you go when you waste away whining and drinking?  Exercise and keep your mind free from the noise.  The noise refers to the ‘nots’.  These ‘nots’ are the phrases ‘it cannot be done’, ‘it’s impossible’, ‘it’s hopeless’.  You predict your own doom, and if you can, why would you.  Start telling yourself that this too shall pass, and if you need to stiff up a little bit, hang on a little more, why not?  Everyone is affected, and you don’t have to be bitter over those who have better.  What is important is that you are doing something about it.  Stop thinking and talking about how worse it can get.  Just move on and take stock of what you can do to survive.
