Love Like No One is Watching

The most unselfish act of all can reap the most rewards.

Have you ever found yourself loving someone more than they seem to love you back? It seems very uneven and unfair at times and you may come to the conclusion that you have loved in vain. But how can love be so? Especially if it was as powerful of a force that created a change in your life. We are sometimes resistant to things that do not give us instant gratification. We give for the wrong reasons and expect to receive the full investment of our time and efforts because of fairness. I believe that this is not the true meaning of love. Love should be unselfish. You should bleed enough for the other person and never once expect them to give you a drop of their own blood back. You should pour out your good deeds and consider anything you may get back as a bonus.

It’s similar to planting a flower. You sow the seed and give it nourishment. You watch it grow and protect it from the elements. In turn you develop a beautiful flower that is fragrant and beautiful to gaze upon. The flower doesn’t love you back. It just is. It is only a plant that you can be proud of because of your own efforts. It can’t give you water or save your life but yet you can appreciate that your care taking was not wasted. You created beauty in the world and showed yourself a compassion for the things that surround you.

Let us say you loved a certain person and then circumstances pulled you apart. But in the days of your love and respect for that person, you were being observed by the one that will love you unselfishly. You are going to be judged by the way you treated your previous object of you affection. Your new love may be the one just around the corner rejoicing in the way you gave your love so freely in the past. That new love interest will be proud to know of your track record and together you can build on the positive habits you have cultivated.

If you abuse the opportunity however, your negativity may just attract more unfortunate personalities like weeds to your flower. It may sound sappy, but grow a garden of love and you can attract more butterflies.
