Mind Matters Most: So Pull Your Finger Out
An introduction to our Real Self. To find out about our Real Self, we first need to comprehend what our false is.
It takes a while before it dawns that we are the Observer. That is, the observer of all the things we are and do. This observer, he, she, or it, is our True Self. That is, the pure observer is the True Self.
But there is a part of ourselves which could be regarded as a ‘lesser part.’ This is not because it has less value. No, rather it is because it knows less. You see, it is observing itself through something rather than with pure clarity. The way it was explained to me by my own Higher Self was in an analogy. The analogy goes like this:
A man has the end of one finger dipped into a stream. The pure Observer is all of the man on the bank; the ‘lesser part’ is that part (in this case, the finger tip) which is immersed in the stream. The lesser part can only see itself ‘through a glass darkly’ so to speak. It can see the pollution in the stream but can hardly see itself at all.
Now, we will assume that the whole body of the man, including the finger tip which is dipped into that stream is consciously aware of itself. It is then plain to us that what is revealed to the finger-tip is a lot different to what is revealed to the rest of the man. The man knows daylight, sunshine, warmth, etc.. The finger tip experiences an entirely different world. But worse than this- the finger tip makes the mistake of identifying with what it is in. It identifies with the stream- including all the pollution in the stream. It becomes unto itself a ‘polluted’ observer. This is because it cannot see clearly.
Now, I want you to imagine that we are each of us the little finger tip. We therefore think of ourselves by what we are experiencing. We are not seeing clearly. We are immersed in something we do not understand. We don’t quite know where we begin and end. For the sake of this explanation, we are ‘polluted observers.’
