Need More Energy? 12 Simple Ways to Start Your Day with More Energy
Most people have experienced that sluggish feeling in the morning. Waking up groggy and feeling like the only thing you want to do is go back to bed can put you in a bad mood that can last all day. You can follow some tried and true tips to start your day off right, and feel better all day long!

1) Water
Hydrate, especially when you first wake up. For many people a great deal of fatigue is due to dehydration. If you do not keep well hydrated consistently dehydration can slowly creep up on you. Try and keep a water bottle on hand at all times and drink periodically throughout the day. Start your day with a tall glass of water, it can be almost as effective as caffeine! Note: Juice, Coffee, Soda etc. does NOT count as hydration. Water is the drink of choice, even over all the Powerades and Vitamin Waters.

2) Breakfast
Always eat a healthy breakfast. Yogurt, Granola, Eggs, Fruit etc. are great ways to start the day. Try to hit a few few groups if you can. Don’t stuff yourself though, eating to much can make you feel sluggish, especially if you eat a lot of carbohydrates. Hint: Starting your day with a Cinnabun and bacon doesn’t do anything but slow you down. A light, protein and vitamin filled breakfast will perk up your whole day.

3) Caffeine
Caffeine is good, when used correctly. There have been many studies showing the benefits of starting your day off with a cup or two of coffee. Just don’t drink any within 6 or so hours of falling asleep or it will keep you up. Resist the temptation to keep upping your caffeine intake for a better buzz. That will only end up with you needing a quadruple espresso to even open your eyes in the morning. Don’t like coffee? Try tea or a crash-free energy drink.

4) Exercise
Yoga or light exercise in the morning will help your circulation and wake you up. Even five minutes of stretching or light ab work can make a big difference in helping your body not feel so sluggish. Try the Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) or a similar beginner yoga routine.

5) Sunlight
Leave the blinds or curtains open when you go to bed. The natural light in the morning will help your body wake up. Sunlight (different from regular light) will trigger your brain to slow its production of melatonin and increase its production of adrenaline, gently helping you wake up.
