New Years Resolutions and Personal Goals: You Can Do It
Insight on the yearly tradition that is the New Year’s resolution.
Every New Years eve, millions of people will take on the personal challenge of making a pact with themselves to try and change a certain part of their lives for the better. Usually, it is something that will make themselves healthier and more physically fit, in order to lead a better lifestyle. We all start off the New Year with good intentions and sometimes, there are those who do succeed at these changes. With the support of family and close friends, if we do this and really want to change, it can be done. However, failure to see the resolution through is a common occurrence. We tend to think it is an easy task. We, as individuals, achieve common goals all the time. So what is it that sets the New Years resolution apart from other goals? The more realistic the goal is, the better chance we have at succeeding at it. In order to achieve a goal, it should be one that is reachable. Common sense tells me that if I set a goal to become a millionaire in one year, I probably will fail at it. However, a more realistic goal would be to save a little money every week so I can treat myself to something nice at the end of the year.
So what this means is that it is more realistic to set a couple of smaller, more achievable goals that will hopefully lead to a bigger goal. Not only does this build character, it teaches us patience, tolerance and acceptance. These 3 things, if practiced in our everyday lives, allow us to lead a very rewarding and productive life. If we can accept that our lives are physically, mentally and spiritually sound, things will usually fall into place. We must be patient. Good things come to those who wait. If you do the right thing, good things will happen. They may not happen when you would like them to, but, they will happen. Being able to tolerate the good and the bad things life throws at us, and take it as a learning experience, will make you wise. Wisdom comes from trial and error. Being able to accept that this is the way it is supposed to be at this specific moment in time is the final piece. Nothing happens in this world by mistake and accepting this is an absolute necessity for life to move forward the way it is supposed to. Be smart when setting a goal for yourself. Set smarter, more achievable goals.

Great article Steve. Very inspiring, honest and to the point. I have found that the only thin that is constant is change and the quicker that we not only accept but embrace change, the sooner that we can weild it in our own favor. Change is opportunity if you’re willing to look at it from that perspective and the willingness to embrace it can be a key character attribute that differentiates us from others. Because so many resist change and are unwilling to “fail”, those of us that welcome change and the opportunity that it brings are poised to benefit. Personally, I see an occasion to adapt as a chance to grow in wisdom and experience.
So, here’s to you and those that read this article. The upcoming year can be whatever you want it to be if you’re willing to take it head on and look fowarward to the prospects that accompany it.

You have a good head on our shoulders Steve. I really like what you have to say, especially regarding change.
