Nightmares

Are they something we fear? Are they warning us of the upcoming events? Or are they just a part of our imaginations?

We have had moments in our life where we’ve had a nightmare. Ones that meant absolutely nothing, some that meant something. What are nightmares exactly? Are they something we fear, and think about constantly, and it then haunts us in our dreams, having us wake up in a cold sweat, breathing fast, hoping that nothing like that will ever happen? Or are they warning us of something very bad happening?

Nightmares are known as bad dreams. But, here’s the catch, your brain doesn’t turn off when you’re sleeping. As an article points out on “http://kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/thought/nightmares.html” it says that when you’re sleeping your brain goes through several sleep stages, including REM

What’s that you may ask? REM stands for “Rapid Eye Movement” it’s when your eyes move back and forth under your eyelids, and during that stage, sometimes, that’s what gives you upsetting or terrifying dreams. But what exactly is a nightmare? Many things can cause a nightmare, basically that is, stress. The stress of peer pressure, the illness, death, or physical of loved one, or mainly things that you fear. Also another thing that can cause a nightmare is watching a scary move or reading a scary book especially when you are about to go to bed. You start to think about the actions in that movie or the description of the book, even especially when you are sleeping, then it causes your brain to think more and more of it, then there mixed together is a nightmare, putting you in a frightening predicament that only you can get yourself out of by waking up.

As it is our tendency to be frightened or scared by scary movies and scary books as like “Friday the 13th” and “Scary Stories” those kinds of books and movies always gets us thinking. Especially if the movie and book are so believing and so “right at you” and awesome, your brain overlooks that movie or book, then mixing it with you sleeping, it gives you a terrifying, sweat breaking, heart racing, heavy breathing nightmare, that’s putting you in the center of it. Now, how do we end a nightmare so scary and so dangerous in our sleep.

All you have to do is simply wake up!

“wake up wake up! time to wake up!” Screams the alarm clock.

As soon as you open your eyes, the scary, terrifying nightmare is over and you are safe within the sanctity of your bed. Yes, your heart is racing and you keep thinking of the nightmare you have had, remembering every description, every shadow, every heart racing thing. But, now that it is over, you have nothing to worry about, it was nothing but a mere dream of your mind.

Now that you know what a nightmare is, and what causes it, I advise to not watch scary movies or read scary books at night to avoid a nightmare.

Happy dreaming….don’t let the goblins bite…..
